As I stumbled onto the set of NBC’s new Celebreality show “Celebrity Circus” carrying a gigantic box of Betamax tapes, I immediately thought “Pinch Me, I must be dreaming.” I gazed across the room and laid eyes on celebrity after celebrity. From Joey Fatone to Chris Knight (Peter Brady) and from Weeman (from Jackass) to Stacy Dash (Deon from Clueless), I tried not to gape at this rare breed of human beings called Celebrities. I carried the burdensome box with all the poise I could muster as I walked toward the crew working for my internship site, Inside Edition. We set up to interview the celebrities during their dress rehearsal of the show.
“Celebrity Circus” is reminiscent of “Dancing with the Stars”, as it features celebrity contestants who have trained for weeks to perform Circus feats. Each contestant performs a death-defying stunt in front of a live studio audience, and after the show, viewers at home can cast their vote to determine who stays, and who goes home. The stars have been trained by experts to perform acts from anything ranging from the flying trapeze to fire dancing. In their interviews, each contestant emphasized the danger of the feats and how difficult it has been to train their bodies to work in such unfamiliar ways. And as I watched the celebrities perform, nostalgia set in, as I reverted back to my own childhood experiences at the Circus and watched a new type of Circus.
