Elon University launched an opportunity for students to intern and study in Los Angeles in June 2009. The program runs for nine weeks.
The program, open to all majors, will have an inaugural class of 28 students and students will earn six hours of credit while onsite in Hollywood, two hours of internship credit and four hours of communications elective credit.
Opportunities for internships exist within entertainment companies and businesses that support the industry, including casting, distribution of programming and entertainment journalism. We have contacts from more than 700 internships sites in the Los Angeles area. Additionally, students will take a course on the business of Hollywood and interact with professionals as they discover the ins and outs of the conceiving stories, pitching scripts, financing films and recruiting talent. The course is designed to have weekly interactions with entertainment professionals in Hollywood.
Students in Los Angeles for the summer of 2009 received internships at places, such as:
- Fremantle Media
- BET
- Extreme Makeover Home Edition
- Young and the Restless Casting
- Marvel Studios
- Participant Media
- MTVN_VH1
Students participating in Elon in LA will also have regularly scheduled activities, such as film screenings, behind the scenes tours of productions in progress and mentoring interactions with our alumni working and living in Los Angeles.
