Elon University launched an opportunity for students to intern and study in Los Angeles in June 2009. The program runs for nine weeks.
The program, open to all majors, this year the class is made up of 35 students. Every student will earn six hours of credit while onsite in Hollywood, two hours of internship credit and four hours of communications elective credit.
There are three classes offered this summer:
Short Film Production
Acting for the Camera
Entertainment Public Relations
We are happy to welcome back Marilyn McIntyre who will again teach our acting class based out of the Howard Fine Acting Studio.
Professor Brad Lemack will also join us this year as we introduce an new class in Entertainment Public Relations.a
Opportunities for internships exist within entertainment companies and businesses that support the industry, including casting, distribution of programming and entertainment journalism. Additionally, students will take a course on the business of Hollywood and interact with professionals as they discover the ins and outs of the conceiving stories, pitching scripts, financing films and recruiting talent. The courses are designed to have weekly interactions with entertainment professionals in Hollywood.
Students in Los Angeles for the summer of 2010 received internships at places, such as:
- FremantleMedia
- The Mentalist
- Extreme Makeover Home Edition
- Fox Broadcasting
- Ax Men
- A&E Television
- MTVN_VH1
Students participating in Elon in LA will also have regularly scheduled activities, such as film screenings, behind the scenes tours of productions in progress and mentoring interactions with our alumni working and living in Los Angeles.
