Culturing Ourselves

The Annenberg Space for Photography

Since I wasn’t interning on Wendnesday a few of us took a day trip to the beach.  Unfortunately, for the past week I’ve begun to learn about the weather patterns in LA.  Everyday you wake up and it’s gloomy.  Around 3/4 in the afternoon the sun decides to show itself and the day becomes beautiful with clear skies…I can’t explain it.  Well unfortunately, it was quite chilly and overcast on our way to Santa Monica so we decided to head to the Annenberg Space for Photography instead.  The current exhibit is called Beauty Culture.  As we walked through the elegantly clean exhibit, we learned about the different phases of beauty.  There was a great documentary at the end of the exhibit that focused on women portrayed in the media, the effects of recent plastic surgery technology, and past and present models.  One quote that stayed with me from the documentary: “Only 2% of the population can achieve the look seen in magazines”
