Incredible, mind-blowing, jaw-dropping, and much better than Terrance Mallick’s “The Tree of Life.” These are just a few of the adjectives used to describe Transformers 3 a truly excellent summer blockbuster. Obviously, this film carried a D-rated story and had nothing but explosions going off at every corner, but I realized, that this is what summer entertainment is all about. Being intellectually challenged through the medium of cinema is very critical to the growth of anyone who goes to the theatre, movies are supposed to change our lives. But there is a time and a place for that, the summer is about relaxing and not thinking too hard. Director Michael Bay gets much criticism because he is known to have a “very weak plot substance” in his movies, but what many people don’t realize is that he is a master of his craft. The fact that the success rate of his movie is about to already cross over $200 million says something about the quality of this movie. Hopefully we’ll be able to see more blockbusters as a group as time goes on because it is important that we realize that blockbusters are an art form all their own. Arthouse cinema has its place but at the end of the day during the summer blockbusters are where its at.
