Lights… Camera… YouTube!

WTWith over 100 hours of video being uploaded to YouTube every minute of every day, there has never been a better time to be a part of the interactive media industry. Arriving in Los Angeles with little to no “live television” experience made my first day in the studio at What’s Trending quite overwhelming. Between all the steps leading up to the live shoot at noon and the long post-production process, I learned quickly that there is a lot that goes into producing the simple YouTube talk show. During the past month I have been blessed with the opportunity to learn from some of the best writers, producers and directors on YouTube. From running the teleprompter, to filming during the live show, What’s Trending provides me with excellent production experience on a daily basis.

In addition to learning valuable production life-lessons, I have also had the opportunity to meet some amazing stars. From Paul Scheer of FX’s The League to the YouTube queen herself, Jenna Marbles, there’s always something new going on at What’s Trending. But the excitement doesn’t exist only inside the studio, as fans can interact with the celebs via social media. YouTuber’s and Twitter followers can ask questions by sending their comments and hashtags to What’s Trending. It’s almost as good as sitting on the couch next to your favorite stars, but without the bright studio lights and cameras in your face!

Although I didn’t land a date with the lovely and gorgeous Jenna Marbles this past Tuesday, hanging out with her and her dog Kermit (who has a larger Twitter following than myself) proved to be a humorous experience on the job. Be sure to check out Jenna’s interview on What’s Trending in the video below and subscribe to our channel for more trending content!
