Positive insight from LA Professionals

POSITIVEINSIGHT/ˈinˌsīt/ : the capacity to gain an accurate and deep intuitive understanding of a person or thing

I am really getting insight about reality while in LA this summer through panel discussions with great Elon alumni, who have been working in LA for a few months or several years, and media professionals.  It’s reassuring to know that there’s a strong network of  Elon graduates who are here to support and provide some knowledge for us younger students in the future, as we are just getting our feet wet in LA’s culture now.  At the Alumni panels, we discussed: transitioning to LA, advice on working your way through the career ladder and how to manage finances, among other topics.

I’ve had the chance to sit in an industry panel, of media professionals who are not Elon alum.  This discussion was invaluable to me because it provided great insight and understanding of the true media landscape from well-established professionals.  The most valuable point made at this panel:  stay positive.  All professionals discussed their career path and how they had to jump (what seemed to be) backwards down the job ladder at some point in their journey.  But by keeping a positive outlook, they discovered that they actually learned the most they have in their career and propelled further because of that back-step.

I’ve even chatted with industry leaders at FremantleMedia, too.  Here are some links to some of my favorite articles about the topics I’ve discussed with professionals at my internship:

o   Importance of Brand Management & Social Media

o   The future of TV

o   Develop interactivity towards behavior, not demographics – Example “PlayPozz” App
