Tuesday night I saw A Parallelogram, the new play by Pulitzer Prize winning dramatist Bruce Norris, at the Mark Taper Forum in downtown L.A. The Forum sits on the Music Center Plaza, next to a lovely fountain and just up the street from the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
There is some nice architecture in this district. The Concert Hall, for instance, was built for $284 million.
As I walked back to my car after the show, I passed the Second Street Tunnel, one of L.A.’s public housing projects. If you look carefully at this photo you can see figures seated on the tunnel sidewalk, sheltered from the L.A. rain.
The message of A Parallelogram was that individuals are powerless to effect positive change in the world.
